Dismissal Safety Reminder
Our top priority during dismissal is the safety of every student. Recently, we have noticed an increasing number of students being picked up on Albemarle Road, near the APC building, or in the MUSC parking lot. Unfortunately, this practice has led to several unsafe situations, as students walking along or crossing Albemarle Road without adult supervision are at significant risk.
Beginning Monday, November 3, students will no longer be permitted to cross to Albemarle Road or be picked up in any of these off-campus areas—including the stadium, APC building, or MUSC parking lot. Students who are not walking home will be directed to the Upper School car line to be picked up safely.
We recognize that this change may cause some inconvenience and appreciate your understanding and cooperation. This adjustment is temporary; once construction on the Chapel is complete, we anticipate a smoother and more efficient pickup process. Thank you for helping us keep all students safe during dismissal.
Auxiliary Department Update
Joey Ferrelli, Director of Auxiliary Programs, has accepted a role outside of Porter-Gaud, and his last day at PG will be Thursday, October 30. We are grateful to Joey for his leadership in shaping and strengthening our Auxiliary program, including his contributions to the growth and success of Camp Cyclone, extended day and enrichment programs. While his absence will be felt, the foundation he established and the outstanding work he leaves behind will benefit Porter-Gaud well into the future.
Effective October 31, John Austen will serve as Acting Director of Auxiliary Programs until we hire a permanent director. John will be supported by Zac Parker and Penelope Fleckman. Please join us in congratulating Joey on the exciting new opportunity ahead of him and welcoming John into his new role.
Parent/Guardian-Teacher Conferences
Conference Day will take place on Friday, October 31. If you need to cancel or reschedule a conference, please contact your student's advisor directly. We look forward to seeing you!

From the Nurse’s Office
We have seen an increase in flu, flu-like illnesses, and GI viruses on campus. As a reminder, any student who is feeling unwell should stay home from school.
Sick Policy:
- Any student who is absent due to illness must stay home until overall symptoms have improved and are fever-free for at least 48 hours without fever-suppressing medication, have no diarrhea or vomiting in the last 24 hours, and are well enough to participate in a full day of classes.
- Students who present with any flu-like or COVID symptoms at school will be sent home.
Prevention Tips:
- Handwashing: The most effective defense against the spread of germs is handwashing. Using antiseptic soap for at least 20 seconds is best; however, hand sanitizer can be used when there is a time constraint.
- Flu Vaccination: The flu vaccine is the best way to prevent the flu. We strongly encourage everyone who is eligible to get vaccinated against the flu.
