Learning Beyond the School Day

O'Quinn Schools offer opportunities for students to learn beyond the typical school day.  With options after school and during the summer, you can register your child for camps or supplements to expand their educational opportunities in a fun environment.

Supplement Descriptions

Tumble Time

Tumble Time is an exciting combination of gymnastics, coordination and basic body movement incorporated with rhymes and music specifically for mchildren 2 to 6 years old. Children are taught gymnastics skills in a progression style on junior-sized Olympic style equipment. Heidi Davidson is a nationally recognized Kinder Accredited Instructor. All participants will be awarded a Gold Medal on the last day of this session!

Little Yoga Sprouts

We introduce the basics of yoga in a playful and joyful environment and the children love it all! They especially look forward to their mindful minute while lying peacefully on their mat at the end of each class. Using fun games, songs, and yoga toys, we teach skills that enhance focus, flexibility, coordination, self-confidence and the ability to create a sense of calm within one's self. Alice Cinnante has a Master's Degree in Education. She is a certified Children's Yoga Instructor and is a Yoga Alliance 200 hour yoga instructor, as well.

Karate

Sensei David and Sensei Anne Pettus, owners of School of Empty Hand Art, will open the world of karate to your child while exercising their minds and bodies. Focus and discipline are buzzwords you will hear in class. Students will learn about appropriate karate behavior to use in and out of class. They introduce the basic fundamentals of karate through movements, games and drills. Reinforcement of healthy habits and positive character development - fun and safe!

Play Power Sports

It’s the wide world of sports perfect for active boys and girls 2 to 5 years of age. In Super Sports class, children learn and play multiple sports throughout the school year! We emphasize how much fun playing sports and staying fit can be! Each week’s activities are new as we throw, catch, run, jump, kick, use our imaginations, exercise, and learn to love all the games! Some of the sports we will coach include: football, lacrosse, golf, baseball, tennis, hockey, volleyball, track and field, and more! We will build the motor skill foundation your little athletes need to compete as they grow! Why play just one sport when you can play them all!?

Cordless Coding

Middle School Basketball Coach - Grades 3-12, boys and girls of all levels welcome!

Algorithms, Sequencing, Looping and Debugging! The following coding concepts will be explored and used to program robots. Coding is a sequence of events and when placed in the right order, the correct action happens. When the order is wrong, usually nothing occurs. Students will be surprised to learn the coding concepts they practice everyday, UNPLUGGED!

Spanish

Señora Sonia Goldberg, our former O'Quinn Spanish teacher, a native speaker from Toledo, Spain and teacher with more than 23 years of experience working in preschool Spanish and Spanish immersion is offering a Spanish Supplement! Come and join her to get immersed into the Spanish language and culture while having lots of fun singing, reading, crafting, and practicing this beautiful language, following "Sonrisas Program."

Wee Little Arts

Wee Little Arts is a visual arts curriculum for young children that has been going strong for 20 years! Students are introduced to a range of painting techniques, both representational and abstract, and a variety of materials while creating work based on their imagination and environment. The creation of mixed-media pieces will also be explored, ensuring some exceptional work! Furthermore, in this session, students will use a modeling material to transition from working in two dimensions to create three-dimensional projects. Physical manipulation of the modeling material introduces advanced spatial relationship and motor skills. Other materials may be used as students create their own sculptures to encourage greater understanding of height, width, depth and texture.

Stretch-n-Grow Dance

Dancing Stars by Stretch-n-Grow of Charleston is a developmental dance class for boys and girls incorporating ballet technique, posture, balance, gross and fine motor development, flexibility, grace, poise, and FUN all designed to give our little ones a foundation for jazz and ballet! Spring semester's theme is "Let It Snow". A costume and recital on the last day are included in this price.

Kids in the Kitchen

Kids in the Kitchen is a hands-on “disguised” learning experience! Without even realizing, children learn math, science and reading as they measure, mix and follow recipes! The children get messy and sticky mixing their creative concoctions. Our very own Chef, Johannah Morgan, enjoys exposing the children to tasty and homemade culinary treats!

Gifted Minds

Lowcountry Gifted Minds offers unique and exciting STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Math) sessions where children experiment, explore, build, discover, and have FUN! Children learn through hands-on, interactive activities designed for Preschoolers ages 3-6. We nurture your child's curiosity with exciting lessons that use age-appropriate equipment to complete experiments and engineering challenges. Your child will be wowed by our activities and will learn the science behind the fun! Voted Charleston's Choice for Summer Camps.

Little Maestros

Explore the language of music through singing, movement, instruments, and fun! Nationally acclaimed Suzuki violin instructor Lisa Deakins will lead the students in developing their listening skills, rhythmic precision, and violin technique through hands-on learning. With a maximum of only 10 students per class, your young musician will receive individualized instruction and solo performance experience many times throughout the semester! Different seasonal themes are provided each session as well as practice with percussion and other instruments that are designed for your child’s specific age group. All materials are provided, including a handmade box violin and bow that your child will get to keep at the end of the semester. Ms. Lisa holds a master’s degree in music education and Suzuki pedagogy, has over 15 years of teaching and performing experience, and is excited to share her passion for music with your children! Lisa’s son, Kirby, is a violinist and proud former dolphin at O’Quinn.

Irish Dance

Learn the foundations of Irish Step Dancing with world-renowned teachers from the Denogla Academy of Irish Dance. The Denogla Academy was founded over 30 years ago by two sisters in New Jersey. Since then, The Denogla Academy has been home to Regional, National, and World champion dancers.In this enrichment program, students will be introduced to the basics of dance through rhythm, footwork, timing, and technique. Students will benefit greatly in the areas of balance, coordination, strength, and performance confidence.

Drama Kids

Drama Kids KinderKids Class Tailored for children in Pre-K or Kindergarten, this program assists in developing your child’s communication skills and boosting their confidence from the start. In our KinderKids program, every student will actively participate in creative drama activities aimed at improving speaking skills, boosting confidence, and fostering creative learning and early social skills. This helps develop a positive environment based on trust and fosters the growth of your child’s skills. Every drama class has new, engaging, and exciting scenes and activities designed to maintain student engagement and enthusiasm for the program. Our drama and acting classes for ages 4-5 focus on personal development rather than final performances, guaranteeing every child an opportunity to learn and enjoy themselves!
